Here's a shot of work done last Monday, 2/20/2006. The Koi on my right leg is almost complete, and we've begun to add some red highlights to the large koi in the center. I had a short session this evening, will post pics in a week or so. I think the red on Kintaro is finished now. We had to touch up a few areas on his legs - something about it being the second time around made it hurt much worse than the first, so that was no fun. I still can't get over how bright the red is! It almost looks like a watercolor painting..

Shot of work done 2/1/2006. Red, orange and yellow were used to create a subtle gradient in the shading for the koi on my right buttock. I'm certain this is going to look amazing when it's fully healed.

As far as healing goes, my typical care regime is something like this:

- Leave tattoo bandaged for the first 6 hours or so. (Sometimes longer, if I have a night session I may just pass out with the bandage on. Your bed is a den of germs anyway, better to keep it covered in this early stage.)

- Clean with warm soapy water. Cleaning the area several times a day over the first 2 days is the key to avoiding a lot of scabbing.

- Apply a light layer of a mixture of A&D and antibiotic ointments. Antibiotic oinments may irritate sensitive skin so I dilute it a bit, A&D ointment seems to be the standard recommended by tattoo shops.

- After the first 2-3 days, I stop using the A&D and switch to my regular skin lotion to avoid excessive drying. Something without any added fragrances, etc like Lubriderm or Eucerin.

- Total healing time typically takes between 2-4 weeks.

It works for me.
